The Glory of the Legal System - by Erik Smith

Met under the lights of town
Took each other's hand and left
Talked all night long under the stars
Held hands and fell asleep
Exchanged numbers and left in their cars

The next day they called each other
Negotiated another perfect evening
Reminisced about the night before
Talked more about the past and future
Unable to wait around for more

They reunited inside a restaurant
Most beautiful couple in sight
Shared an intimate meal together
Left to go to his place for a movie
And maybe something they'd remember forever

Amidst the action within the film
They began to kiss and rub each other
He calls her into his room
She rips off his clothes and they begin
They make love for hours and sexually consume

The next day she calls him and says
Her mom knew they had sex and called the cops
Pressed charges on him for statutory rape
But I'm 17 and you're 15 he cried out loud
That's against the law the officer told me
But I'm doing so good my mom is so proud

They talked tenderly as the cops knocked on his door
Came inside his house and entered his room
Handcuffed him and took him away
Put him in jail to await a trial
Knowing it would be awhile before he could see
The perfect woman he loved and another good day
